Teddy Roar!

The boys have been working on animal sounds lately.  They can do a few pretty well: a chicken (bock, bock), a cat (meow), an owl (whooo, hoooo), and a frog (ribbit).  Then there are a couple others that are not the traditional sounds you would probably first associate, haha!  The first is a puppy dog - we often see dogs out around the neighborhood when going on walks, and the boys notice them panting as they come over to the wagon for a sniff.  So when they started making panting noises with their tongues out every time they saw a dog, we thought it was cute and reinforced this as the sound a dog makes.  Lately, we've been trying to incorporate "ruff ruff" with the panting too, but they love acting it out with their tongues.  Honestly, most of the dogs we see are rarely barking, but always panting.  Perhaps the boys choice of association means they are just very observant.

The other strange one is a horse - we simply imitated an actual horse sound as best we could (not easy to do) and Owen instantly picked up on this and does it all the time!  It sounds like a drawn out and throaty "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and is really funny.  Then one week at a playgroup I heard another mom teaching her kid that "horses make a neigh sound", and I was like oops, maybe we should have thought of that!  Owen also does that same sound for a zebra, and I can't blame him - all of the pictures of zebras look like a horse with stripes.  And we haven't ever demonstrated a sound for the zebra, so they must have assumed our silence on this means it is another horse.  What sound does a zebra make anyway?

Lastly, we have "roar" - and it applies to lions, tigers, and bears at the moment.  Owen and Oliver both do a pretty cute high pitched "roar".  Did you know that Pooh Bear also roars?  He's a bear too you know.
