Blue Angels
Last weekend we took the boys to see their first Blue Angels airshow. The event was in Baltimore and Ryan's company was able to get us tickets to a lunch, tour, and viewing aboard the S.S. John W. Brown at the port in Baltimore City. A couple days beforehand, we showed the boys some YouTube videos about this specific ship and they were most excited to learn that there were beds on the ship for people to sleep overnight! When we got aboard the ship, had lunch and started to explore a bit, we found a crew member who took us on our own private tour of the sleeping quarters and the boys loved trying out several of the beds in the bunk area. When it came time for the airshow, Owen and Oliver were a little nervous about how loud it was going to be...but were ok once Daddy put some earplugs in for them. They loved seeing the big planes zoom past out over the water, doing tricks and flying in different formations. All three argued about who was going to fly those planes when they're big enough! They've been running around the house with their toy planes imitating the Blue Angels all week. Another great part of the day was the cool, drizzly weather. The boys were happy to wear their rain coats and boots and received many comments about being the cutest onboard the ship! Afterward they wanted to splash in the big puddles just outside of the boat. Since they were dressed for the occasion we let them splash for a long time - I knew we had dry clothes and blankets in the car and this would wear them out for a nice nap on the ride home. It was funny because for a while they sort of splashed around in silence, as if wondering, "Are they really letting us do this?" Even though water was filling up over the tops of their boots and their shorts were almost completely soaked - this was definitely a "let them be kids and make a mess moment", and perfect ending to a fun afternoon!
