Last weekend was sunny, beautiful, and just the right temperature to go hiking. This was the first time we've taken the boys out on a hiking trail and let them walk on their own. They've always been in some sort of baby carriers when we've taken them on these trails, so it was fun to watch them explore and enjoy the outdoors at their own pace. Granted, it was a very slow pace given that we had to stop for them to pick up just about every stick along the way. Saturday we went to River Bend Park and walked along the Potomac, which made collecting sticks even more fun because there was somewhere to throw them! We packed PB&J sandwiches and snacks and made a pit stop halfway through to refuel tired little legs. The boys loved seeing doggies out walking and were sure to say "hi doggie" and "bye bye doggie" when they passed. On Sunday we went to another nearby trail where we saw two Great Danes that were gigantic standing next to the boys. On both hikes we let Spencer out of the backpack carrier for a bit to stretch his legs and walk around. He was just thrilled to be "outside"...his favorite place! I can tell we are going to have many fun years of hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities ahead of us!
