The boys received a really neat gift from another twin family for their birthday - a box filled with flour, baby oil, and wrapped up yellow work trucks, cones, and shape molds. I never knew this until today, but when you mix 8 cups of flour with 1 cup of baby oil you get a light brown, sand-like material that, I must admit, is pretty irresistible to get your hands into and shape and squeeze. The boys were thrilled with the trucks alone, and were more than intrigued when I started scooping the fluffy white flour into the box, and then dumped oil on top of it! I'm surprised they held back for the half a minute or so that they did as I started mixing and kneading the ingredients in front of them on the floor...it was all but an open invitation to them and they quickly rolled up their sleeves and helped me make the "dirt". Once everything was mixed pretty evenly, play in the construction site started and lasted about an hour and a half...with only minor infractions of not keeping the sand or toys in the box! It probably would have gone on longer if it weren't for Spencer deciding he was done and ready to get up and wander the house. By that time he was covered in powdery white and started tracking it around with each step. I knew there was going to be some vacuuming involved before starting this project, but wanted to contain it to one level (or room) if possible! So we closed up the "work site" and I stripped the boys' dusty clothes off and let them take their new trucks into the shower to get clean. A super fun activity and our family room floor had a nice baby scent for the rest of the day!
