Riding the Capital Wheel

Friday we went down to National Harbor to try out the brand new "Capital Wheel" Ferris Wheel that just opened last month.  It's sort of like a smaller version of the London Eye, with fully enclosed and temperature controlled gondolas.  The boys were so excited when they woke up and I told them we were going to ride a giant Ferris Wheel over the water!  It was a gorgeous day and we had a quick lunch out on a grassy area in the harbor before boarding the Ferris Wheel.  One of the boys' favorite books is about an Octopus that lives under the dark green water of a lagoon, so they kept talking about how there could be an octopus in the water below us.  Before we made our first full rotation, we jokingly mentioned to Oliver that the Ferris Wheel could go down under the water and he didn't like that at all!  Afterward, we walked over to this awesome playground area where for $5 you get entrance and unlimited carousel rides!!  There were only a few other kids there, so the boys stayed on the carousel, switching animals ride after ride until we were pushing well into nap time and still had the drive home to make.  When I told the boys it was time to go, Oliver admitted that he did so much fun stuff and was a little bit sleepy.
