Love Summer Concerts!

We sure have been loving our summer concerts!  Between the Sunday evening concerts on the green and weekday morning kids entertainment in Reston, the boys have been lucky enough to see on average 2 forms of musical entertainment each week.  I think we all agree that our favorite is Sunday nights on the green because there's always Daddy and pizza!  Last week we tried pizza from the Deli Italiano in the village and thought it was really yummy, and an added bonus was that we picked up the wrong pizza on our way over and then a few minutes after they called to tell us we could come back and get the one we ordered for free!  The boys had fun making bookmarks with markers and stickers this past week at a craft table setup by Friends of the Great Falls library.  And as often happens, toward the end of the night someone came up to us and asked if we wanted to take balloons home.

Riding To Charlie's House

The boys have become really good at riding their bicycles this summer.  They switch between the two bikes we have with training wheels and the orange balance bike without training wheels or pedals.  Owen's sort of claimed that one as his own, but Oliver's got the concept of pushing and riding on it with his feet up the best.  And Spencer likes to ride wearing his sunglasses!  Last weekend our neighbors went on vacation and left a big harvest of vegetables from their garden for us to pick up.  The boys were so excited to take a special bicycle ride to their friend Charlie's house to get some veggies.  Ryan and I walked, corralling them along the side of the road the entire way.  They did a great job - especially Spencer who rode full steam ahead without tiring!

Volcano Island

Last week we met up with our friends for a day of fun at a nearby water park we'd never been to before called Volcano Island.  When we first walked in the gate and were looking for a few chairs to set all of our things on, Spencer spotted the blue water slides and took off running for the pool (good thing it was shallow enough for him to walk in)!  He waded over to the slide, climbed up, and without hesitation went down the dark tunnel into the water...in his diaper and clothes!  Even Owen and Oliver were a little cautious about throwing themselves down this slide and took a few minutes to check things out, mainly because there was a huge bucket at the top of the tower that continuously filled up and had a loud bell that rang faster and faster right before it dumped all the water out on the entire slide area.  But they eventually tried the blue tunnel water slides and a few others, stopping only for a quick lunch and continuing to play until dinner time!  Spencer and Joslyn spent a lot time playing together in the deeper pool; he was just barely able to walk around with the water up to his neck and she carried him all around the water and would catch him when he jumped off the side.  Owen was big enough to wade around this pool, but saw them having so much fun that he had to join in on the fun jumping into Joslyn's arms!

Swim Lesson Time

On Thursdays the twins have a 30 minute swim lesson at the indoor gym pool.  Last Thursday was their 3rd lesson, and it was just during the 2nd lesson that I learned I could leave them there and do something else during that time!  Since it's summer, the easiest thing to do is take Spencer to the outside pool.  Thursday was overcast and the air temperature was just below 80, so the water was about 5 degrees warmer than the air and hardly anyone was in sight of the outdoor pool other than the lifeguards and a couple lap swimmers when we showed up.  The water felt good and Spencer thought it was fun having the great big pool all to himself!  Owen and Oliver came out and swam with us when their lesson was done, until we were all a little tired and hungry for lunch.  After lunch I gave everyone a lollipop for great swimming and it was funny how they immediately wanted to share licks and then show off their brightly colored tongues!
