West Family Week
This week Grandbobby and Dee, Uncle Reed and Aunt Brandi, and cousins Beth Ann and Sarah were in town for a visit. They arrived just in time for the Sunday evening summer concert in the village, played by a lively cover band that even had a dancing bear make an appearance! We spent a couple days by the pool swimming, lounging, and snacking. There was nightly band practice down in the basement (the supervised practices sounded better than the others!). One rainy afternoon we visited Udvar Hazy and the boys had fun splashing outside in their rain boots beforehand. We went up to the observation deck and also spent a lot of time checking out a newly displayed video of one of the Discovery launches that was setup just under the engines. After we told Oliver the shuttle he saw on the screen was the same one above him, he kept looking quickly back and forth between the video and the shuttle, waiting for flames to burst out of the engines at any moment, and nervously asking if we could move on or go home. Owen paid close attention to how the shuttle was positioned in the video and has been recreating take-off at home with the toy replica I got him at the gift shop. We spent a day at the National Harbor, where the kids all wanted to take home the yellow Peeps car. They all had a blast riding the big Capital Wheel and taking unlimited carousel rides! On our last day together we took a trip down to Mt Vernon and toured George Washington's mansion for the day, then headed to the Marine Corps Museum to watch the silent drill platoon and drum and bugle corps perform in the evening. A very busy and fun week!! The boys have been broken records asking when Beth Ann and Sarah can come back again!
