Preschool Party!

Owen and Oliver's preschool class invited the parents in for a Halloween party Tuesday morning.  The kids didn't know parents were coming, and so the teachers had all the adults wait in another room while they marched the kids in to sing two Halloween songs.  As you can see in the video, they all walk in, line up and then are suddenly caught off guard by seeing all of the mommies and daddies across the room.  The teachers told us during parent's night earlier in the month that this would probably happen and that they would be the only ones singing for us!  But it was still really cute to see all the kids in their costumes following instructions from their teachers so well.  Owen didn't want to wear his mouse ears, glasses, tail, or black tights...so he was dressed all in grey with a black nose and some whiskers drawn on his face.  Oliver on the other hand wanted all his props on, and we were told that he insisted on wearing the glasses on all morning from the moment I dropped him off!

After the "performance", we all went back into their classroom and watched the kids identify colors to get a seat at the table for a special snack.  They said a little blessing together and then indulged in chocolate cupcakes!  I added a video of this at the end, and also a longer one of all the kids sitting back and enjoying the party.  The teachers were so nice and let Spencer pull up a chair at the table and have a cupcake too.  He was so cute and happy to be participating with the big kids.  And it was funny to sit there and realize that roughly 30% of the kids at the classroom table were mine, haha!  Oliver and Spencer devoured their cupcakes while Owen picked at his, trying to decipher the orange sprinkles on top.  He did however eat the candy corn passed out!  We ended our fun morning out on the school's brand new playground, which Spencer had not been on yet and enjoyed trying out.  I think he's already looking forward to when he can start preschool next fall!  And the cutest ending to the day was Owen talking about his preschool party and repeatedly telling both Ryan and I, "I'm so glad you came!"

Scout x3

Some days the boys suddenly have a renewed interest in an old toy that has been in plain sight for weeks or months.  Today that toy was their green "Scout" dogs Aunt Brandi gave them when they were just babies.  They each have one in their crib and it's been more of a mainstay they rely on at bedtime to play lullabies after we've closed their doors at night rather than a toy they play with around the house.  But today after nap time Spencer showed some interest in Owen's Scout, resulting Owen demanding it back, Oliver running off to get his out of his crib, and me searching for Spencer's as quickly as possible to keep the peace.  Soon we had all 3 Scouts in one room and everyone was happy as could be!  Except Wesley, who moped around wanting attention more than ever, now that these creepy stuffed dogs had taken away his usual afternoon celebrity status with the boys.  The Scout trio even came downstairs and jumped on the trampoline!

Not Too Cold...

For PUMPKINS!  Just when you were thinking, "How could they possibly take more pictures of those boys with pumpkins?"  Here you go.  Did I mention how much I love everything pumpkin?  During my last trip to Trader Joe's I stocked up on pumpkin yogurt, pumpkin cheesecake, and pumpkin waffles for the freezer.  After Saturday morning soccer we took the boys back to their favorite pumpkin outing at the Reston Farmer's market.  They've been asking for a train ride and more moon bouncing, and I've really been getting into taking pictures with our nice camera, so the cool, sunny day was perfect for these activities.  The boys' puffy, bright winter coats even put a cute touch on the pictures.  Now, while we've visited several pumpkin patches over the last few weeks, we haven't actually brought home any big pumpkins until yesterday.  I held off for as long as possible because I knew the boys would be too tempted to kick, roll, or push them down the front steps of our house and around the yard.  I've been letting them take a few of the little pumpkins home during our previous visits and those have been through battle around the inside of the house.  So yesterday when we picked out our big pumpkins, Spencer was funny as he took on the job of pulling them around in his red wagon.  Owen quickly caught on to this and wanted to pull one around too... while Oliver was more interested in climbing hay stacks and checking out all the Halloween decorations!  I have some fun ideas for decorating our big pumpkins later this week!
